After 25-year-old Shafi Qasimi was fatally shot, a group used a stolen car to dump his body in Grizzly Peak, police say.
MARTINEZ — A Bay Area charged with murder has been sentenced to 16 years in prison as part of a plea deal with Contra Costa prosecutors, court records show.
Guadalupe Robles, 29, pleaded no contest to manslaughter in the death of 25-year-old Shafi Qasimi, in exchange for prosecutors dropping the murder charge. He was formally sentenced April 13 and transferred to North Kern State Prison two weeks later, court records show.
Robles was arrested last year in connection with the May 8, 2022 killing of Qasimi, whose body was dumped in Grizzly Peak in the Berkeley Hills after he was fatally shot in Concord.
Qasimi and Robles were both living in an encampment with others off Willow Pass Road in Concord. Authorities said at the time that Robles and others at the encampment blamed Qasimi for fighting with another person and spraying him with bear mace earlier in the day. They said one of the other camp dwellers handed Robles a small pistol, and that he shot Qasimi in the head.
Later, the group used a stolen car to move Qasimi’s body to Grizzly Peak. A sightseer made the grisly discovery in a location west of the Siesta Valley Recreation Area, authorities said.
Robles will be eligible for parole in 2035, according to prison records. His attorney didn’t respond to a request for comment.
