My boyfriend dumped me after I devoted myself to him through his cancer
DEAR DEIDRE: I NURSED my boyfriend through cancer treatment, but as soon as he recovered he dumped me.
Now I feel used, angry and full of resentment, and I don’t know how to move on.
We were together for four years. I’m 46 and he’s 48.
When he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, he fell apart.
He was terrified I would leave him. Even though our relationship wasn’t in a great place, I devoted myself to him and supported him through treatment.
I even went part-time in my job, putting myself in financial difficulty.

When he called to say he had got the all-clear, I was so happy and suggested we went out and celebrated.
But while we were sitting in our favourite restaurant he told me he wanted to finish our relationship. I honestly thought he was joking.
It soon became clear he was absolutely serious. He said he wasn’t happy and didn’t love me any more.
I feel like I have been used as his carer, until he was well enough to get on without me.
A year on, I’ve heard he has a new girlfriend and they have even bought a house together.
I am still so full of hate and anger towards him, and don’t know how to get past it.
