Kiernan Shipka Admits Being Child Actor on 'Mad Men' Was 'Intense'
Kiernan Shipka is looking back at her role on Mad Men.
The 23-year-old actress was just seven-years-old when she was cast as Sally Draper, the daughter of Jon Hamm‘s character Don Draper, on the show, which ran from 2007 to 2015.
She was 15-years-old when the show ended.
In a new interview, Kiernan admitted she didn’t realize how “intense” her role on Mad Men was while she was filming.

“I’m surprised because I wasn’t really thinking it was heavy duty at the time,” Kiernan shared with Page Six.
Kiernan went on to say that she was too young to realize what was going on at the time.
“I didn’t know anything else,” Kiernan explained. “That’s what I did. But looking back, I go, ‘Yeah, well, that was really intense.”
Kiernan also appreciates now how fortunate she was to play Sally.
“I got really lucky as a kid. Just to be trusted with the performance and not really doubted,” Kiernan shared. “And I think in turn, I just didn’t really doubt myself and I found my abilities in ways that I might not have if they were stifled or people tried to shape or shift them in some kind of way.”
“They let me be on that set,” Kiernan added, “and I’m so thankful for that.”
