‘Absolutely wrong’ – Alasdair Gold disputes online transfer claims about Sanchez at Spurs

Alasdair Gold has reported that Davinson Sanchez has been open to leaving Tottenham for a long time and it was Antonio Conte who blocked an exit for the Colombian over recent transfer windows.

A section of the home fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium booed Sanchez during the game on Saturday after some typically sloppy defending from the Colombian in the lead-up to Bournemouth’s second goal.

The chorus of boos every time he touched the ball got so loud that Cristian Stellini had to take off the 26-year-old just a few minutes later.

Hugo Lloris remarked after the game that he has never seen something like that in his career and admitted that he feels sorry for the centre-back (Sky Sports).

Gold has now rubbished suggestions on social media that Sanchez passed up on opportunities to leave Tottenham, remarking that it was Conte who kept hold of the centre-back as a backup player.

The journalist said on his YouTube Channel: “I saw some people saying on Twitter earlier, ‘he had the chance to leave and he didn’t’, I’m sorry that’s wrong. That’s absolutely wrong.

“Davinson Sanchez, from what I understand, for the last few summers especially has been absolutely open to leaving.

“He wants regular game time, but I just think no club has ever offered the sum of money that would get Spurs interested.

“I think one of the windows that [Antonio] Conte didn’t allow it as well because of the lack of numbers.”

The attempts by some Spurs fans to defend the booing is embarrassing.

There is simply no good reason to boo your own player unless there is a lack of effort, which clearly was not the case with Sanchez.

Thankfully, the majority of the fan base seems to be condemning the behaviour of what seems to be a loud minority of petulant fans.
