Report: Tottenham ‘advancing in negotiations’ with La Liga club for 27-year-old
Sport have claimed that talks between Tottenham and Barcelona regarding a permanent deal for Clement Lenglet are now advancing.
We covered a report from last Friday’s print edition of Marca (as relayed by Sport Witness), which claimed that despite Lenglet’s decent spell at Spurs so far, he has not done enough to convince Barcelona to include him in their plans for next season.
The publication asserted that Barca ‘will try to get Tottenham’ to buy the 27-year-old this summer as Xavi Hernandez already has enough options at centre-back and is also waiting for the arrival of Athletic Bilbao’s Inigo Martenez on a free transfer.
The same information has now been confirmed by Sport, who say that Lenglet is not likely to feature in Barca’s plans for next season and the Catalan club are ‘willing to sell him’ this summer.
The report asserts that the Frenchman could make a permanent switch to Spurs, with the North London club said to be ‘advancing in the negotiations’ for the defender.
It is suggested that the two clubs could agree on a fee of around €14m (£12.3m) for the former Sevilla man when the transfer window opens.

All of these reports suggesting that Lenglet could be bound for Spurs, are coming from Spanish outlets rather than local ones, which is quite telling.
I do not think Tottenham will make a decision one way or the other about the Frenchman until they have brought in a new head coach.
