Gemma Collins left devastated after seeing plants ‘left to die’ in supermarket as she furiously confronts staff

GEMMA Collins has claimed she furiously confronted supermarket workers after spotting that their plants were “gasping” for water.

The GC says she recently popped into both a Tesco and Marks & Spencer in Essex when she caught sight of ‘dying’ plants and flowers on sale.

Gemma, 42, has now told her army of fans she was “so upset” at just how dry they were.

The former Towie star says she asked the staff why they were not watered, but was told they were ‘unable to’ due to staff constraints.

Gemma is now urging her followers to water supermarket plants themselves – or raise it with shop workers if they see similar scenes to what she has described.

Writing on her Instagram Stories, angry Gemma said: “Hello lovely plant lovers. If you see plants gasping for water in supermarkets, please give them water or ask the staff to water them.

“I went to Tesco Epping this week and Marks and Spencer Chelmsford and was so upset when I saw the plants were not watered – even sadder when I asked the staff why they are not watered.

“They said not too much… One store said they don’t have time!!! The other store said there is not enough staff!!!”

In the post, which was shared with her 2.2million Instagram followers, she added: “The flowers were reduced and basically left to die because no one would water them in both stores!!!

“If I was working there I would do it. I just don’t understand also from a business point of view, both stores, if your plants were watered you wouldn’t need to reduce and therefore make profit.

“I came away from both stores thinking how can anyone walk past flowers that are gasping for water and leave them to die, they are living.”

Gemma also posted on her main Instagram grid about the flowers and plants she says she witnessed.

She wrote: “Both stores replied ….Yeah a lot of customers are upset and tell us report it to the powers that be we don’t have enough time etc etc to water them!!!

“At no point did anyone go do you know what I’m going to water them It left me feeling so sad for the beautiful plants that bloom for us yet no one had the foresight or feeling to water a gasping plant .

Gemma also added a quote from English poet Alfred Austin.

It reads: “Hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.”

The Sun Online has contacted both Tesco and Marks & Spencer for comment.
