Malcolm McDowell's Son Beckett Rex Addresses Exit from 'American Idol' After Being Revealed as Mystery Contestant Not Shown on TV
It was revealed on Monday night’s episode of American Idol that someone who made it into the Top 26 had left the competition, but the show never revealed who that person was.
Turns out, we never saw that contestant at all throughout the entire season, but his identity has been revealed.
18-year-old singer Beckett Rex, who happens to be the son of actor Malcolm McDowell, made it into the Top 26, but quit the competition before the show started airing this season. The producers seemingly edited him out of the show completely.
In an Instagram Story posted to his page, Beckett addressed his exit.

“To all of you wondering, yes I was on @americanidol and I made the top 26,” Beckett said. “I’m not going to say why I didn’t decide to continue in the competition but what I will say is that it was my choice. I am forever grateful to my American Idol family and I will always look back at the experience with the utmost gratitude and fondness. Please go vote for my friends now as they continue on in the competition.”
Reps for the show confirmed to Yahoo that Beckett “chose to leave the competition.”
Beckett also has a very famous sister-in-law.
