KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Just one day after earning the KCAC's top weekly softball honor, Friends University sophomore outfielder Priscilla Mora has now snagged a national nod by being named the NAIA National Softball Player of the Week, the national office announced today (Apr. 18).
Mora erupted offensively in helping the Falcons win five of six games, batting .684 with four home runs and 18 RBIs.
A native of Beaumont, Calif., Mora put in the best game of her career by going 3-of-3 with two homers and a school-record (modern era) tying eight RBIs to help the Falcons score a single-game record 25 runs at York University. She also drove in four runs in the first game win at York and got on base at a .714 clip while slugging 1.474 overall.
In the opening week series at KCAC front-runner Ottawa University, Mora had four hits in seven at-bats with a double and two runs scored.
Mora's offensive explosion has her tied for fourth in the KCAC in home runs (seven) and fifth in RBIs (41).
"Priscilla struggled a little earlier this season and has put in the extra work so hard the last month to get her swing going again and has done amazing at the plate!" said Friends softball head coach Suzanne Unruh. "We are proud of P!"
Coming up, Mora and the Falcons are set to play at McPherson College tomorrow (Apr. 19, 2 & 4 pm) and at Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday (Apr. 22, 4 & 6 pm).
Friends is currently battling Ottawa for the top spot in the league and is just one game behind the Braves at 15-3 in the league along with a 27-9 overall mark. Mora's hot streak at the plate has coincided with the Falcons winning their past five games by a whopping 71-10 margin, including four straight run-rule victories.
