Succession fans freaked out about the inner Mr. Darcy finally showing up in Tom Wambsgans

When Succession premiered on HBO back in 2018, one character was very familiar to fans of Jane Austen.

Matthew Macfadyen is the tall, handsome British actor who played the iconic Mr. Darcy in 2008’s Pride and Prejudice.  He’s the Mr. Darcy who professed his love to Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley) in the pouring rain as emotion overcame them both. He’s the Mr. Darcy who ruined all of our lives with just the flex of his hand. He’s the Mr. Darcy who bewitched us body and soul after striding through a foggy field in a floor length duster coat.

Macfadyen had an absolute hold on our feelings, bringing one of the most long-lasting stories of love and romance to the big screen. I mean, come on:

Now, after 33 episodes, we have finally seen the Mr. Darcy emerge in Macfadyen’s Succession character, playing Tom Wambsgans, the husband of Shiv Roy. Throughout the more than three seasons of the dramatic saga of the Roy family business, Wambsgans has been everything from sheepish stooge to a fall guy. He’s been walked all over by everyone, especially his wife.

During Sunday night’s episode, “Honeymoon States,” we had a moment between Wambsgans and Shiv Roy that sent Pride and Prejudice fans into a frenzy. We knew you were in there, Mr. Darcy.
