Charles offers another ‘olive branch’ to Harry and Meghan with coronation photo
King Charles has offered another ‘olive branch’ to Harry and Meghan by releasing a photo of them in the coronation souvenir programme.
It was taken by royal photographer Chris Jackson to mark the then-prince of Wales’ 70th birthday in 2018.
Taken in Clarence House, it shows Charles with Prince George on his knee, Camilla cuddling Princess Charlotte and Kate holding Prince Louis.
Behind the bench stands Prince William and Prince Harry with his arm around Meghan.
But the happy picture disguises plenty of family friction behind the scenes.
Meghan and Kate had fallen out over Charlotte’s bridesmaid’s dress while Harry was unhappy with the family’s treatment of Meghan.
The photo’s release comes after Harry had a ‘heart to heart’ with his father before agreeing to come to the coronation, according to reports.
It is claimed there was a willingness to ‘mend on both sides’.
Harry confirmed he would be attending the coronation on May 6 but Meghan is staying with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in California.
Charles is said to be glad his son can make it but was ‘disappointed’ his grandchildren won’t be attending the historic day.
In the build up to the coronation it was reported Harry had delayed replying to the invite because he was ‘preoccupied’ with the seating plan.
Reports claimed the duke and Buckingham Palace were engaged with ‘transatlantic ping pong’ over the issue.
He reportedly had a list of questions for the palace and ‘assurances’ about what would happen if he did attend.
The coronation souvenir programme tells the life stories of Their Majesties and offers a preview of the coronation, including the service.
It is on sale at WHSmith, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, M&S, Waitrose and independent newsagents.
