West Ham vs Arsenal betting tips
It’s the Grand National this weekend, and that’s fairly appropriate given Arsenal and Manchester City are embroiled in a fascinating race.
The Gunners enter the final stretch with a six-point advantage, but Pep Guardiola’s side have seriously found their stride and don’t look like slowing down anytime soon.
Mikel Arteta’s side dropped points against Liverpool at Anfield last weekend, and their six point lead could be reduced to three if the Citizens win their precious game in hand. That all means Sunday’s showdown with West Ham is a must-win.
The Hammers have a battle of their own with relegation a serious possibility. West Ham have risen to 14th in the division but remains just three points above 18th-placed Nottingham Forest with nine matches left to play.
David Moyes’ side are actually in fairly reasonable form with just one defeat in their last six matches in all competitions. However, Thursday’s Europa League trip to Gent is hardly ideal preparation for the top-flight leaders.
Gunnar win…
Arsenal rocketed into a 2-0 lead against Liverpool last weekend with a phenomenal first-half display. They were fortunate to escape with a draw in the end but a point at Anfield isn’t to be sniffed at.
It also came after seven-successive top-flight victories, with five of those by a two-goal margin. No side has taken more points, scored more or conceded less on the road this season than Arteta’s men.
The Gunners have had a week to prepare for this London showdown, while West Ham play for the second time in four days.
Arsenal have won eight of their last ten meetings with West Ham, while manager David Moyes has lost 27 of his 40 meetings against Arsenal, winning just four!
On target…
Yes, results haven’t been too bad. However, West Ham are conceding an outrageous number of chances and are unlikely to get away with that against the clinical leaders.
The Hammers have conceded at least 15 efforts at goal in each of their last three matches against Gent, Fulham and Newcastle, and 14 of those were on target!
Arsenal, meanwhile, have registered 15 efforts on target in the last three games and should fill their boots this weekend.
No Arsenal player has had more efforts on target than Gabriel Martinelli over the last seven league matches (8) and we’re backing the Brazilian to have at least two.
Yellow warning…
Vladimir Coufal will have A LOT on his plate on Sunday.
He arrives having played 90 minutes in Belgium four days ago, and there’s a serious mismatch in pace up against Gabriel Martinelli.
The full-back has picked up three cautions in his last eight appearances, and has received three yellows in his last four meetings with Arsenal.
