Spurs legend backs 50-year-old manager as best choice for attacking football
Darren Anderton has urged Daniel Levy to make Brendan Rodgers the next Spurs boss, remarking that the recently departed Leicester manager would get Tottenham playing attractive football again.
If some reports over the last few days are to be believed, Rodgers has emerged as a shock contender to replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham after his exit from the King Power Stadium.
Football Insider claimed a couple of days ago that the Northern Irishman is looking like the right fit for Spurs and that there is a ‘good chance’ the Lilywhites will move for him in the summer.
The report added that Levy is a fan of the former Liverpool boss, having tried to bring him to Tottenham in the past.
The North London club are apparently in the process of making contact with the 50-year-old regarding the manager vacancy.
Anderton believes that the priority for Spurs should be to play a brand of football that the fans identify with, and suggested that Rodgers is the man to deliver that.
The Tottenham legend told The Daily Express: “I like Brendan Rodgers. When he’s given top, top players… I mean, what he did at Liverpool, he was so unlucky not to win the Premier League there.
“He plays a brand of football that Tottenham fans want to see. I think that’s fair to say. Since Pochettino, with Mourinho and Conte, the football has been dour at times.
“We’ve got some wonderful footballers, but two very defensive managers that have certainly made for some very dull afternoons at White Hart Lane.
“So I think that comes into it. I feel like he plays a brand of football that is the Tottenham way, and I think that would work.”

One bad season at Leicester does not make Rodgers a bad manager. I would not be surprised if he succeeds at his next job.
However, I do not think he is the right man to turn to if Tottenham’s priority is to play possession-based, attacking football as the 50-year-old has become quite pragmatic over the years.
The likes of Vincent Kompany, Arne Slot and Roberto De Zerbi are more likely to deliver attacking football than Rodgers is.
