Journalist claims PL club have now held ‘initial talks’ with Pochettino amid Spurs links
Journalist Simon Phillips has revealed that Chelsea have touched base with Mauricio Pochettino regarding their managerial vacancy but the talks have not progressed beyond that stage so far.
If reports over the last week and a half are to be believed, Pochettino is not one of the names on Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Antonio Conte in the summer.
The Athletic reported last week that while the 51-year-old would be ready to return to N17, the Lilywhites have simply not reached out to their former manager yet while The Daily Star suggested recently that the Argentine is not part of Spurs’ four-man shortlist to take over at the club.
However, it certainly appears as if Tottenham fans are in favour of bringing Pochettino back, with chants of ‘Mauricio Pochettino, he’s magic you know’ echoing around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (Football.London).
Phillips has now revealed that the Blues have reached out to the former Spurs boss but explained that he is not one of the West London club’s top targets.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I’ve only had info about Pochettino.
“Chelsea spoke to him last week as well, but that hasn’t gone any further. There’s not much more to it than that.
“There have been no official interviews or face-to-face chats with him yet. It’s sort of been initial talks for now.
“But in terms of Pochettino, I can’t see that moving very far at the moment.
“He’s certainly been one of the more backup options that Chelsea are looking at and they’ll certainly speak to more candidates as well.”

Daniel Levy and the Spurs hierarchy know Pochettino well already. So, they might now be focussed on learning more about the other candidates before making a final decision on their top target.
The other explanation for the club not reaching out to the Argentine could be that they have decided to do all they can to bring in Nagelsmann and out of respect for the 51-year-old, they do not want to contact him as a potential backup option.
