OAKLAND — Fire crews worked early Friday to put out a fire at a homeless camp that authorities said forced them to close a freeway on-ramp.
The fire was in the area of the 27th Street on-ramp to state Highway 24 and eastbound Interstate 80, according to the Oakland Fire Department and California Highway Patrol.
Crews responded to it around 6:20 a.m., according to dispatchers.
The smoke from the blaze could be seen from the two freeways.
It was unclear how big the blaze was or how long it would take to put it out. There was no information on whether anyone had been injured.
