Report: Spurs could reignite interest in player they came ‘very close’ to signing in January
Mondo Udinese have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could reignite their interest in Gerard Deulofeu this summer, having come close to signing the Udinese star during the January transfer window.
Tottenham allowed Bryan Gil to leave on loan in January and strengthened their forward line with the acquisition of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal.
However, Italian outlets reported during that time that Spurs first explored a deal for Deulofeu and only later turned their attention to Danjuma after the Udinese star picked up a knee injury (TuttoMercatoWeb).
Mondo Udinese have now asserted that the former Everton forward came ‘very close’ to signing for Tottenham during the previous transfer window.
The report suggests that the North London club, who are not short of financial resources, could try again to snap up Deulofeu, who is set to run into the final year of his contract at the Dacia Arena in June.
It is asserted that Udinese would not be able to repeat the €20m (£17.4m) request they made to Napoli last summer for the attacker, owing to his contract situation.

Given that Conte is no longer in charge and the fact that Paratici might not continue at the helm, it might not be prudent to assume that the club would reignite their interest in their previous transfer targets.
The decision on who to pursue this summer would only be taken after Spurs finalise a managerial appointment.
