‘Going to be a battle’ – Paul Merson shares his Everton v Spurs prediction
Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has shared his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash against Everton on Monday night.
The north Londoners make the trip to Merseyside for their first fixture since the departure of head coach Antonio Conte, with his former assistant Cristian Stellini entrusted with trying to steer the club to a top four finish.
The Toffees are currently fighting for their Premier League survival, but have certainly looked more solid at the back following the arrival of former Burnley boss Sean Dyche.
Tottenham‘s injury crisis worsened over the international break with Emerson Royal (knee) the latest player to become sidelined, joining Rodrigo Bentancur (knee), Yves Bissouma (ankle), Ben Davies (hamstring), Richarlison (muscle injury) and Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring) in the treatment room.
Club captain Hugo Lloris, however, has returned to training following his knee issue.
Merson believes that despite the recent turbulence at the club, Tottenham will leave Goodison Park with all three points.
He told SportsKeeda: “The one thing I don’t get about Antonio Conte’s sacking is that his number two is in charge. I don’t understand that at all.
“This is a hard game, and you’ll know if the players are behind their manager this weekend. It’s going to be a battle on Monday night – Everton will make it one. We’ll see if Tottenham are up for it.
“If Tottenham can win this game, you’d hope that they can follow it up. I think they need to win their next three matches to make it to the top four. This is a big game for the players at the club.
“Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham will be his call. He isn’t guaranteed a trophy at a club like Manchester United – they went a long time without winning one.
“It depends on who Tottenham appoint as their next manager. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kane stayed at the club. The lad deserves to take a call on what he wants.”

Defeat on Merseyside would cap a disastrous time for Tottenham in which they have not only lost their head coach, but also have Fabio Paratici on leave from the club.
The Spurs faithful’s reaction to a poor performance would only compound their calls for a permanent boss to be put in place, however, there is no douby that those in the away end at Goodison Park will give Stellini all the support he needs.
