A COUPLE has built a tiny house together in a remote desert landscape and is still in the process of building a pint-sized home.
Sara Underwood, a former television host and model, and her partner, Jacob Witzling, a teacher and builder, design miniature houses together.
The pair call their operation “Cabinland” and have completed several projects together, including their most recent build in the Arizona desert.
Sara (@sara_underwood) revealed the tiny home in a recent video on TikTok, referring to their new residence and upcoming projects as part of “Cabinland 2.0.”
“Traded in the PNW for some much needed Arizona sun,” she wrote in the post’s caption.
“We’re down here getting to work on Cabinland 2.0. Time to pick up the tools again and get started building the next cabin now that we have a comfortable place to lay our heads.”
At the beginning of the clip, Sara showed off the small wooden building, which is the size of a garage, according to the model.
It was equipped with several windows, a ladder, and outdoor furniture and housed the couple’s truck when they weren’t there.
“100 percent of the exterior is salvaged,” Sara claimed.
Along with being environmentally conscious with the materials, Sara explained that her favorite element of the tiny home was the roof, which she called a “living roof.”
It featured a complete cactus garden, and the couple allegedly hauled the soil up there by themselves.
Additionally, the doors to the tiny home were hand-made by Jacob, who angled several pieces of wood together and added small windows to make the unique piece.
Inside the space, the garage-home is equipped with furniture that Sara said she salvaged from mostly antique stores.
“It feels like you stepped into an old country-western home from like 100 years ago,” she noted.
“I love it.”
Sara continued that they do sleep in the tiny home, as it is equipped with a bed, but their van offers the kitchen and bathroom necessities.
Although they did equip the tiny home with an outdoor shower made out of hollowed-out cacti.
The couple is working on a larger main house for the area.
However, Sara said the only issue is that they can stay in the area during certain times of the year for the cool weather, otherwise the heat brings out creepy crawlies that make her leave fast.
Either way, the desert home certainly isn’t the only tiny house project that Sara and Jacob have completed.
Some of their first operations, the original Cabinland, were in the wilderness, and they became known for their diamond cabin, per Design Boom.
The diamond cabin, along with the other small wilderness cabins, have moss-covered roofing.
Additionally, the diamond is two stories tall, with the second floor reachable by ladder, similar to that of the small desert home.
They have a water filtration system in a pump house attached to the structure and an interior filled with antique furniture and even a fireplace.
It also has a hot tub fueled by burning wood and an outdoor shower attached to a nearby tree.
Sara and Jacob have made similar additions to the other tiny wilderness homes.
