Efforts to fix a major storm-caused landslide in northern Los Angeles County will get underway Saturday night, April 1 — and could cause problems for nighttime drivers trying to travel south on the 5 Freeway this weekend.
The series of maelstroms that have hit Southern California recently caused a landslide in Castaic, which caused a portion of the roadway on the southbound 5 Freeway to break away, according to Caltrans.

Work crews will repair the southbound side of the freeway this weekend, which will cause overnight closures.
All lanes on the southbound 5 freeway will be closed between Vista Del Lago Road and Templin Highway, Caltrans said in a recent announcement. The southbound off-ramps at Smokey Bear Road and Vista Del Lago Road will remain open, but the on-ramps there will be closed.
The closures will be in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday, and, if needed, from 11 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
Motorists will have to take the 138 Freeway east to the 14 Freeway south to reconnect with the 5 Freeway, Caltrans said.
