Mitchell out Tuesday in Charlotte
Mitchell joins Jarrett Allen on the injury report.
Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell is getting Tuesday night off.
Per the team’s injury report, Mitchell is sitting out the Cavs’ game against the Charlotte Hornets due to a left finger sprain that’s being designated as injury management on the report. Mitchell has been dealing with the injury since he suffered it on March 4 in a Cavs win over the Pistons.
The injury is still bothering him, so a night off makes sense. It’s an injury that usually means players miss some time to let it heal, but Mitchell has been playing through it as Cleveland is in the stretch run of the season and jockeying for playoff positioning.
It’s also notable that Mitchell is missing this game and not Wednesday’s against the Philadelphia 76ers. (He’ll play in the later barring something unforeseen.) This is clearly a rest day to let him get closer too 100% and allows him to play the next night against the better opponent.
Mitchell joins Jarrett Allen as the only two Cavaliers listed as out for the game. Cleveland is 5-6 on the year when Mitchell does not play. The Cavs were most recently without Mitchell on Feb. 8 when they beat the Pistons 113-85.
