THREE teenagers have been arrested after secondary school pupil took an unknown substance and was rushed to hospital.
Emergency services were called to Caedmon College in Whitby, North Yorkshire at 12.10 on Monday after the boy became ill.
The student was taken to hospital by ambulance where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
North Yorkshire Police said those arrested are all male and in their teens.
A force spokesperson said: “An investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the possibility of an unknown substance having been ingested.”
All three of the teenagers have now been released on bail.
Meanwhile, officers have asked people to respect the privacy of the student and not to share any footage of the incident on social media.
The school sent a text message to parents telling them that “as a school we acted quickly and decisively in dealing with the incident”, the Scarborough News reports.
“The school’s key priority is the safety and wellbeing of our students,” read the message.
“North Yorkshire County Council is the lead agency for safeguarding and protecting children and young people from harm and as a school we will work closely with them.”
