Manchester United must turn their attention to Barcelona youngster Gavi this summer following the cancellation of his recent contract renewal.

The Catalan giants handed a long-term deal to Gavi on January 31 after confirming that they received permission from a court to register him as a first-team player.

However, La Liga vowed to appeal the decision and have now overturned the registration, citing that the club failed to turn in their paperwork on time.

While Barcelona are planning their own appeal, Gavi is now technically a youth player. He could become a free-agent when his contract expires in June.

Man Utd must focus on Gavi instead of Frenkie de Jong

United boss Erik ten Hag was determined to land Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona last summer, but the Dutch international had no desire to leave his club.

The Red Devils continue to look at De Jong’s situation at Camp Nou but in our view, they should capitalise on Barcelona’s woes to sign Gavi on a free transfer.

De Jong is obviously one of the best midfielders when it comes to retaining ball possession but the 25-year-old is not known for his creativity in the final third.

Compared to De Jong, Gavi has been impressive in both aspects. He has seven goal contributions this term but has also excelled with his distribution and defensive work.

The 18-year-old has also been effective playing from the left wing and he has the potential to become a world-class player in the space of the next few seasons.

Hence, United must switch their focus from De Jong to Gavi this summer. They have a brilliant chance to sign him for free if Barcelona fail to win their appeal.
