Cavaliers reportedly adding Danny Green
Green is set complete a buyout with the Houston Rockets.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, after standing pat at the deadline, might be in position to make a splash on the buyout market.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cavs are frontrunners (as are the Boston Celtics) to veteran wing Danny Green once Green completes a buyout with the Houston Rockets. The Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns are both in on Green, per Woj.

Green, 35, was originally picked by the Cavs way back in 2009 as second-round pick out of North Carolina. He, though, didn’t figure it out in Cleveland and ultimately blossomed after a trade to the San Antonio Spurs. He’s won titles with the Spurs in 2014, the Toronto Raptors in 2019 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. For his career, he’s a 39.9% career three-point shooter.
Most recently, Green was with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he ended up after the Philadelphia 76ers traded him in the De’Anthony Melton deal over the summer. Coming off an ACL injury, Green played in 3 games for the Grizzlies before the deadline before being sent to Houston in the multi-team dealt that resulted in Luke Kennard going to Memphis.
Green would be a great buyout market pickup. He would give J.B. Bickerstaff an alternative to Dean Wade, Cedi Osman and Caris LeVert in the rotation as a three-and-d wing, even if he’s not near his apex anymore. He’s also beloved as a locker room figure with championship experience — something a Cavs team still growing up absolutely could use.
Green would likely be signed to a minimum deal for the rest of the season, meaning it could just be a rental. It also would fill the Cavs’ only open roster spot, but not put them into the luxury tax.
