Christian Pulisic looks set to leave Chelsea during the summer transfer market. Sources tell ESPN that the United States men’s national team star will be one of many outgoings with the club. News of a potential move away from Stamford Bridge for Pulisic isn’t particularly surprising and could be best for the player.

Plethora of new signings not a good sign

The Blues have brought in 18 total players since Toddy Boehly and his partners purchased the club last summer. This includes 16 permanent transfers and two loan deals. Boehly definitely wasn’t one to sit on his hands and assess the team from afar. The American businessman shelled out an incredible $650 million on new signings during the current campaign. Chelsea only managed to make $71 million in player sales to put a small dent in the total spending.

Among the plethora of fresh faces at Chelsea, the club brought in quite a few attackers. This obviously didn’t bode well for Pulisic, who was already fighting for playing time. Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, Carney Chukwuemeka, and David Datro Fofana all entered an already packed depth chart at the club.

Pulisic looked to leave Chelsea in January

Pulisic was interested in a January move away from the Blues in the January transfer market. However, a knee injury just five days into the month hindered any chance of a potential move. He has yet to recover from the injury and has missed the last five Chelsea games.

Even before the injury Pulisic was not receiving ample playing time. In fact, the American has managed to start just six Premier League matches and one Champions League game this season.

The USMNT star will have just one more year on his current Chelsea contract when the summer transfer window opens. It’s fairly safe to assume that the club will not offer the playmaker a new deal. Pulisic will still surely have suitors lined up in the market though. However, the Blues will certainly have to take a hit on their $73 million investment in the player.
