You helped me get my husband’s drinking under control
DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN my husband’s drinking started getting out of control, I wrote to you for help.
My father was an abusive drunk and I was terrified that history was going to repeat it itself.
I’m 42 and my husband is 45.
After one too many, he changes from a kind, loving man into someone who snaps and shouts, just like my dad.
My father would scream and swear at my mum when I was a little girl.
I told my husband I hated the way he was talking to me, and he didn’t even apologise.
Your advice was to confront this issue when he was sober and tell him how it made me feel.

I took my husband out for a meal and was brutally honest.
He has accepted he needs help, is taking medication and is now on the road to recovery.
