United States Former President Donald Trump criticized American forces’ hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan and said ‘Bagram Airfield’ has a strategic location to monitor China from a closer range.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday in his speech in Sothern Carolina said, he is not concerned about Afghanistan, however, he is worried about Bagram Airfield, situated only one hour distant from the site where China makes atomic bombs.
He also criticized that American sophisticated weaponry was left behind by the Islamic Emirate fighters, and stated that the Taliban are exceptional fighters, but they never fought at night because the group did not have guns equipped with night vision cameras.
“We gave them guns equipped with night vision, and what the Taliban have, are far better than ours because they are brand new,” Donald Trump said.
The last American troop left Afghanistan on August 30, 2021 – after ending the country’s two-decade war, the longest military engagement in the modern history of the United States.
Prior to the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from Afghanistan, Donald Trump had described the move as “the most horrible decision”, and stated due to its vicinity to China, Bagram Airfield should have been maintained for many more years.
Bagram Airbase is located some 11 kilometers in southwest of Charikar, the provincial capital of Parwan province, which accommodated American forces until 2020.
The withdrawal of the U.S. and international forces from Afghanistan in August 2021 completely changed the scenario for the Afghan people. The late regime change and the return of the Taliban to power after twenty years of struggle were beyond expectations. A considerable number fled the country fearing persecution and death threats by the Taliban. Business remained closed, and freedom of speech, free elections, and democratic values were taken away from the people.
The authoritarian regime has not yet been recognized by any government, Afghan women and girls have been deprived of their natural rights to get an education, work or appear in public spaces. Ordinary people live in misery with no work, no future and no prospects.
