The outrageous reason why Love Island’s Anna-May has resorted to finding love on TV
AMOROUS Anna-May Robey hopes to find a man in the South African villa – after growing tired of all the love tangles in her home town.
The payroll administrator, from Swansea, now gives her local nightclub a swerve.
Anna-May, 20, says: “Because it’s such a small town, everybody knows each other.
“If you wanted to go out and, kind of, get with someone, you would be able to plan it, you’d know where they are.
“It’s the same Saturday night every Saturday – you bump into people you don’t want to see.
“Or you can walk into a club, and there’ll be three people you’ve just been talking to. It gets really awkward – I tend to hide.
“I’m excited about meeting new people on Love Island, from different parts of the country.”
Anna-May follows in the footsteps of last year’s Islander Paige Thorne, also from Swansea.
She adds: “I don’t know Paige but know of her. Us Welsh girls . . . maybe it’s the personality, maybe it’s the accent.
“A lot of people said to me, ‘You suit Love Island – you should apply’.
“So when I was given the opportunity, I thought to myself, ‘I may as well take it, I’ve been single for a long time. So give it a go”.
But kooky Anna-May doesn’t want to be romanced with candle-lit dinners under the stars.
She says her dream first date would be a trip to Alcatraz prison, off the coast of San Francisco.
As luck would have it the show’s new villa in Cape Town overlooks the prison where the late Nelson Mandela was held at the end of his sentence for opposing apartheid.
Anna-May said: “I’m so interested in stuff like that, anything to do with prisons.
“I’m just here for Love Island, but maybe they could send me on a date to the prison, you never know . . .”
