Celtic fan left bleeding after being ‘hit with bottle’ at New Year derby clash with Rangers

SHOCKING footage shows the moment a Celtic fan was left bleeding after appearing to be hit with a bottle at yesterday’s New Year clash with Rangers.

Celtic snatched a dramatic point at Ibrox as a late Kyogo goal earned them a draw in the second Old Firm showdown of the season.

But the mood in the away in turned sour after Hoops fans were allegedly targeted with missiles, including glass bottles, after the final whistle.

Several clips posted on social media after the match appear to show a supporter being struck with a bottle as the 700-strong away crowd waited for their side to come and greet them after the match.

A loud clink can then be heard as a man is allegedly struck by the item chucked from home fans.

The video then shows a fan with bloodied hands.

Another injured man can be seen holding his head as blood appears to be soaking through his hat.

Someone can be heard shouting: “F*****g monster” as stunned fans look on.

Another fan is heard yelling “he’s f*****g bleeding”.

Cops confirmed a fan suffered a head injury after objects were thrown after the match.

And officers have now launched an investigation into the ugly scenes.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of items thrown during the match at Ibrox on Monday, 2 January.

“One man suffered a minor head injury after being struck by one of these items.

“Enquiries into the incidents are ongoing.”

A Celtic spokesperson said: “We are aware of a number of incidents affecting supporters and staff and we understand these are being dealt with by the police.”

Rangers have been approached for comment.

Yesterday’s match saw a customary wreath laying service before kick-off on the 52nd anniversary of the Ibrox disaster – in which 66 Rangers fans lost their lives – and then a minute’s silence.

Stars of both sides also wore black armbands – as Celtic paid tribute to ex-star Frank McGarvey, late footy legend Pele and former Pope Benedict XVI.

But TV microphones picked up some fans disrespecting the minute’s silence – as angry home supporters reacted and other Celtic fans condemned the disruption.

A Daizen Maeda goal put Celtic ahead before the Hoops were pegged back by a strike from Ryan Kent and a penalty from James Tavernier. But it ended all square at 2-2 as the Hoops’ top scorer Kyogo pounced to level it.
