Glenn Hoddle has predicted that we are yet to see the best of Yves Bissouma in a Tottenham Hotspur shirt.
Bissouma’s arrival from Brighton in the summer was met with a lot of excitement from the Spurs fan base, given how consistent the Mali international had been at the Amex Stadium over the last three years.
While the 26-year-old struggled to break into Tottenham’s starting eleven during the first couple of months of the campaign, he did start getting regular football under his belt before the winter break and showed glimpses of his quality.
Since the restart, Bissouma has started both matches against Brentford and Aston Villa alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the park, with Rodrigo Bentancur out injured.
The former Brighton man has looked a little sluggish in both matches, although he is far from the only Spurs player who can be accused of that, with the Lilywhites picking up just a point from the two matches.
Speaking after Tottenham’s 2-0 loss at home to Aston Villa on New Year’s Day, Hoddle told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (01/01/23 at 7:25 pm): “When you see Bissouma at Brighton, he was outstanding. There’s more to come from that lad. There is no doubt about it.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Bissouma seems like a much better fit in a three-man midfield than a two-man midfield. The Mali international is very good defensively and can carry the ball well but his choice of passes and passing range leaves a lot to be desired. He also seems to dwell on the ball for too long rather than releasing it quickly.
