“New records”: Russia and Armenia expand trade relations
The trade turnover between the Russian Federation and Armenia reached new record levels, amounting to $3.8 billion. The figure was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia Mher Grigoryan.
At the same time, we are talking about the growth of both import and export operations.
“We have recorded record levels of mutual trade. For 10 months of 2022, the trade turnover between our countries in the equivalent amounted to 3.8 billion US dollars, which exceeds the figure for the same period in 2021 by more than 85%,” said the Deputy Head of the Armenian Government.
According to official data, trade with the Russian Federation accounted for almost 35% of the total volume of Armenia’s foreign trade.
“Exports from Armenia to the Russian direction in January-October 2022 exceeded $1.7 billion (an increase of 2.5 times). Imports from Russia amounted to about $2.1 billion.
Russia and Armenia have developed a digital platform for business cooperation between the two countries. We have very good prospects for building cooperation chains between businesses in Russia and businesses in Armenia, especially in terms of developing ties between small and medium-sized businesses. A digital platform has already been created that makes it possible to greatly simplify and automate these ties,” said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk. Now Moscow and Yerevan are planning to activate new joint programs for the peaceful use of atomic energy.
“An extremely significant topic in our bilateral relations is cooperation in the field of the peaceful use of atomic energy,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized.
It should be recalled that Russian enterprises that are part of the state corporation Rosatom participated in the overhaul of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), the only nuclear power plant in the South Caucasus.
Armenia’s trade with other EAEU member states also skyrocketed – in just nine months they grew by 80%, exceeding $3 billion.
