Report: Spurs and Liverpool among ‘top sides’ ready to make offer to free agent
Journalist Graeme Bailey has told TEAMTalk that Tottenham and Liverpool are among the top sides ready to submit an offer for Inter Milan centre-back, Milan Skriniar.
The defender’s current contract runs out at the end of the season and, although Inter want to tie him down to a new deal, no agreement has been reached as of yet.
Skriniar has been linked with Spurs yet again of late (90 min) and CalcioMercatWeb.it claimed recently that the Lilywhites could offer €30m (£26.1m) to Inter for the 27-year-old in January.
The report claims that several English clubs have been alerted to the situation, many of whom never thought that Skriniar would be available on a free. Tottenham, Liverpool, and Man United are involved in the race, allegedly alongside a number of other clubs.
Bailey admitted that Inter still feel they will convince Skriniar to sign on the dotted line, but clubs from the Premier League will be able to send over pre-contract offers in January.
He said (TEAMTalk): “Milan Skriniar is genuinely one of the best free agents who could ever become available, he would be right up there with someone like Antonio Rudiger.
“Most clubs who are now showing an interest did not believe that he would be leaving Inter, but their attempts to tie him to a new contract have thus far not proven successful.
“Inter still believe that they will convince him to stay but he will very soon be able to field those pre-contract offers.
“Paris Saint-Germain were always and still are, but now all the Premier League top clubs are interested – the chance to land one of the world’s best defenders at 27, does not come along too often.
“So even someone like Manchester City, who don’t have a new centre-half at the top of their wanted list, are ready to put an offer to him. But so are Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle. The battle for Skriniar will be fascinating if he decides to leave.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
If Skriniar does leave, which I still don’t think he will, it will likely come down to money, and I would be very surprised if Tottenham put the most lucrative pre-contract offer on the table. Inter Milan probably have two more gettable defenders in Bastoni and De Vrij for Spurs.
