Report: La Liga giants have offered player to Tottenham for January
The Daily Mail have revealed that Barcelona striker Memphis Depay has been offered to Tottenham ahead of the January transfer window.
Depay’s future has been the subject of much speculation over recent weeks, which is not surprising considering that the striker struggled for game time in the first part of the 2022-23 campaign and is out of contract at the end of the season (Transfermarkt).
90 min reported last month that the 28-year-old was one of the options on Tottenham’s radar ahead of January while Sport subsequently claimed two weeks ago that Antonio Conte’s men could face competition from the likes of Manchester United, Roma and Juventus for the Netherlands international.
Mundo Deportivo then squashed Spurs’ hopes of signing Depay by reporting on Saturday that the player has decided to remain at Barcelona until the summer and leave on a free transfer.
The Mail have now seemingly contradicted that claim by suggesting that the Catalan giants have offered Tottenham the chance to snap up the former Manchester United man in January.
However, the report does go on to add that the 28-year-old is ‘unlikely’ to make the move to North London next month.
Spurs Web Opinion
I do not think Conte will be too keen on signing another centre-forward despite the injury to Richarlison while Depay will also have doubts over getting regular football at Tottenham. So, this rumoured transfer will not make sense for any of the parties involved.
