Report: Club will exercise option to extend contract of Spurs and Liverpool target
Multiple Italian publications have now reported that it will not be easy for Tottenham to lure away Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina in January.
La Nazione (16/12/22 as relayed by Viola News and SportWitness) have now named Tottenham as one of the clubs who have asked for information about Amrabat ahead of the January transfer window, along with Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.
However, the report states Fiorentina will take up the option to extend the midfielder’s deal by one year (until 2025), which will likely mean that the player gets a pay rise too.
The publication add that it remains to be seen how long the will of the Viola chairman Rocco Commisso to hold on to Amrabat lasts, amidst interest from the aforementioned heavyweights.
Meanwhile, the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (16/12/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) have now reported that the 26-year-old could have been signed for just €15m- €20m (£13.1m-£17.4m) before the World Cup.
However, it is explained that even an offer of around €30m-€35m (£26.2m-£30.5m) might not be enough to convince Fiorentina to sell the player in January.
Gazzetta also name Spurs and Liverpool as the two clubs to ‘watch out for’ in the race for Amrabat’s signature.

I suspect that most of these reports naming Tottenham as a potential destination for Amrabat are purely basing it on our interest in the 26-year-old 12 months ago prior to the signing of Bentancur.
A central midfielder is not likely to be a priority for Conte in January while that position is arguably Jurgen Klopp’s number one priority to strengthen, which is why I expect the Reds to win the race for the Moroccan if he leaves Fiorentina.
