Journalist says midfielder is on Spurs wishlist – But agents may push for Liverpool move
Gianluca Di Marzio has revealed that although Antonio Conte is keen on signing Sofyan Amarabat, the midfielder’s representatives are trying to get him a move to Liverpool.
On the back of his performance at the World Cup for Morocco, Amrabat has seemingly become one of the most sought-after players across Europe ahead of the January transfer widow.
Foot Mercato reported two weeks ago that the 26-year-old is a target of Spurs, Liverpool and Inter Milan, while Paris Saint-Germain (Relevo) and Atletico Madrid (Firenze Viola) have also been credited with an interest in the Fiorentina star over recent days.
Journalist Matteo Moretto revealed earlier this week that the Viola value Amarabt at around €40m (£34.3m) and added that Conte likes the player ‘a lot’.
Di Marzio has now explained that despite the Fiorentina star being on Tottenham’s list of targets, the Spurs head coach is quite happy with Rodrigo Bentancur.
The journalist suggested that Brighton could also make a move for the Moroccan and added that it would take a substantial fee to convince the Serie A club to sell the midfielder.
When asked if Amrabat is on Conte’s wishlist, Di Marzio told SoccerNews: “Yes. Because he has all the characteristics he needs to play under Antonio Conte. But at the moment they are very happy with Bentancur, and he plays in the same position.
“But I think Amrabat’s agency, Stellar, will try to place him with Liverpool in the Premier League.
“Everyone sees something in that, it would be the dream of the agency, but also that of the player in question. And Klopp wants to sign a new central midfielder. Talks have been made, but no official steps have been taken yet.
“Another team that could take the plunge is Brighton & Hove Albion, although Fiorentina does not want to sell him at all. He is the bet of Rocco Benito Comisso, who brought him to Florence.
“Anyway, if the price tag around his neck for the World Cup was €20m. It is now €40m to €45m. If that is offered, Fiorentina will think about a sale.”

It would not make much sense for Spurs to spend big on another number six in January, given that Conte already has Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Bissouma and Skipp at his disposal.
The Italian is likely to be prioritising a move for a number eight like McKennie or Malinovskyi, who will give him more options in case he decides to adopt a 3-5-2.
