All I want is to spend more time with my son but my ex won’t allow it
DEAR DEIDRE: I WANT to spend more time with my son, but my ex won’t let me take him out.
It breaks my heart that I can’t be the father he deserves, but I’m at a loss.
I’m 28, my ex is 26 and our son has just turned three.
His mum and I broke up just over a year ago, and while we didn’t end on the best of terms, I promised her I’d be there to help co-parent our son.
But initially, she didn’t let me see him at all. No matter what I tried, it was as if she was set on shutting me out of his life.
After a lot of persistence, she began letting me see him at her house, where she could watch us at all times.

I’ve asked on many occasions if I can take him for a day out, or have him sleep over at my house, yet she always tells me that I can’t be trusted.
I don’t understand why she won’t let me be more involved in his life.

DEIDRE SAYS: You are right to be upset. She cannot stop you from seeing your child unless the court orders you to do so.
