ManuFuture Taps OpenBOM to Streamline Custom Parts Manufacturing
OpenBOM and ManuFuture want to give mechanical custom parts manufacturing a digital makeover.
OpenBOM, a digital product data management platform, announced Wednesday (Dec. 14) it was working with ManuFuture, a mechanical custom parts manufacturing marketplace.
“Digital transformation is in the air and manufacturing companies are looking for connected cloud-native platforms that can streamline their engineering and manufacturing processes, eliminate manual data re-entry, mistakes, and old-fashioned processes,” Oleg Shilovitsky, CEO and co-founder of OpenBOM, said in a news release.
The partnership comes as companies are showing more willingness to make data flow more smoothly, as PYMNTS noted earlier this week in our conversation with Routable CEO Omri Mor and Flexport Chief Financial Officer Kenny Wagers.
As Mor put it, “the pandemic gave everyone the proper kick they needed to say, ‘Hey, if I cannot track this right now, things are not going to move forward.’”
“The human aspect, the manual potion of [data entry and invoicing] has had to be reinvented over the past few years in the freight industry,” Wagers added.
Businesses have moved past the days in which emails, paper, and even handwritten invoices have gummed up the works, and ultimately have prevented payments (and thus goods) from reaching where they needed to go.
Many firms have antiquated invoicing and billing systems in place. And as Wagers told PYMNTS’ Karen Webster: “We cannot depend on the general ledger anymore.”
OpenBOM and ManuFuture say their collaboration is designed to support integrated product development custom part bidding.
“The manufacturing process can be complex, requiring coordination between product development, procurement, and contractors,” the release said. “By partnering with ManuFuture, OpenBOM aims to provide an integrated environment for quick and easy ordering and bidding on custom parts that meet customers’ needs.”
ManuFuture Co-founder and CEO Ben Halperin said the integration will help hardware companies manage their bills of materials and other operations.
