'White Lotus' Creator Mike White Says Season Three Could Take Place in Asia

The White Lotus just wrapped up its’ second season on HBO tonight, and creator Mike White is already revealing some plans for the upcoming season three.

Mike opened up in a post-finale interview clip on HBO Max, sharing his thoughts on [SPOILER]‘s death, and what season three might look like.

Chatting with the outlet, Mike hinted that season three might be set in Asia somewhere.

“The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex,” he shared. “I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”

It was revealed during the season two finale that Jennifer Coolidge‘s character, Tanya, had died. However, Mike isn’t closing the door on her returning.

“Jennifer is my friend and everybody loved her in the first season, and I was like, ‘I can’t go to Italy without Jennifer.’ And maybe that’s still the case. Like, maybe you can’t go to Japan without Jennifer, either,” he says.

He added about Tanya’s death, “In the end of last season, Tanya is sitting with Greg in the last episode and he’s talking about his health issues and she says, ‘I’ve had every kind of treatment over the years, death is the last immersive experience I haven’t tried.’”

“I was thinking, it’d be so fun to bring Tanya back because she’s such a great character, but maybe that’s the journey for her, a journey to death,” Mike says. “Not that I really wanted to kill Tanya because I love her as a character and obviously love Jennifer, but I just felt like, we’re going to Italy, she’s such a diva — a larger than life female archetype — it felt like we could devise our own operatic conclusion to Tanya’s life and her story.”

Season three was announced last month.
