After being abused as a child you gave me the strength to find help
DEAR DEIDRE: I FIRST wrote to you a few years ago, telling you about the sexual abuse I had suffered as a young child, and how it had affected my life and relationships.
You were so sensitive and understanding, and gave me your support pack, Abused As A Child, as well as explaining how specialist counselling could help me.
I’m 34 and had not told anyone what had happened to me before, even my partner, who’s 38.
What people don’t realise is that you don’t just help those in need once – you follow-up and keep on helping if necessary.
Talking to you over time gave me the strength to get counselling in my area and to start the long healing process.
And the best news is, my relationship with my partner has gone from strength to strength.
So much so that I’m now expecting a baby.
Life looks better than it ever has.
I cannot thank you and your team enough for your kindness and advice.
