WORLD CUP security will reportedly be ramped up to check for laser pens ahead of England’s clash with Senegal.
The Three Lions are set to take on the African champions in the second round at 7pm on Sunday.
Both sets of fans have used lasers to try and distract opposition players while penalties were being taken.
Denmark goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel fell victim to the use of a laser when Harry Kane took a penalty against him in the Euro 2020 semi-final.
And Mo Salaah missed a penalty in a World Cup play-off penalty shoot-out after Senegal fans shone a light in his eyes.
In fact, three out of four Egypt penalty takers missed as Senegal booked their place in Qatar.
Fifa fined Senegal £143,000 over the incident and England £26,000 – but are now taking practical measures to avoid a repeat of the two incidents.
According to the Telegraph, all fans watching the game on Sunday will have to pass through a metal detector before entrance.
And all bags will undergo a search via an X-ray machine to try and identify laser pointers, which are prohibited at the World Cup.
England will be aiming to avoid the lottery of a penalty shoot-out at the Al Bayt Stadium.
