Pakistan ‘Stopped and Prevented’ MP from Attending Herat Security Dialogue in Tajikistan

Mohsin Dawar, a member of the Pakistan National Assembly, claimed on Sunday that the Pakistani Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) prevented him from leaving for Tajikistan to attend a security conference.

The Pakistani National Democratic Movement chairman bemoaned his inability to attend the Herat Security Dialogue in Tajikistan despite the Pakistani government removing his name from the exit control list.

Dawar stated in a tweet on Sunday, November 27, that he was “stopped” at the Islamabad airport and “prevented” from attending the security conference abroad.

He shared a photo of a Pakistani interior ministry document from October 17 that gave him “Multiple Time Permission” to travel internationally for a period of 60 days. He called the situation “outrageous”.

The Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement-affiliated national assembly member of Pakistan had received approval to travel to Switzerland for a conference and was scheduled to fly to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, to attend the 10th Herat Security Dialogue, organized by Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies.

Dawar said that a sergeant has “more authority” than the federal government in response to the situation, referring to the person who stopped him at the airport.
