Why isn’t Ben Chilwell in the England squad for World Cup 2022?
SunSport revealed that Ben Chilwell will miss the tournament after feeling his hamstring ‘pop’ during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
The full-back pulled up during the final stages of the match where he was pictured grimacing in pain while being helped off by the medical team.

And scan results showed that Chilwell will remain sidelined for a number of months – a sizeable chunk on the rest of his season.

Chilwell took to social media to report on his devastating injury and to thank fans for their moral support.

The England international tweeted “Following my ACL injury I worked so hard to make sure I was ready for the World Cup.
“It has always been a dream of mine. Unfortunately, this won’t be possible following my scan results.
“I’ll do all I can to get back playing for Chelsea ASAP. Thanks for the messages of support.”

When is the World Cup 2022?
- Group stages for the Qatar World Cup will start on Sunday, November 20. This was moved a day earlier than planned in order for Qatar to play in the opening fixture.
- Second-round fixtures will be played between December 3 and 6.
- The quarter-finals take place on December 9 and 10.
- Semi-finals are set for December 13 and 14.
- The final of the 2022 World Cup will be on December 18.
