‘Isn’t as strong’ – Micah Richards highlights drop in form of one Spurs player

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has highlighted that Eric Dier’s form for Tottenham Hotspur has dropped in recent times.

Dier started the season in impressive fashion at the heart of the Tottenham defence but has seen errors creep into his game over the past few weeks which have proven to be costly.

The 28-year-old was guilty of a poor first touch during the Champions League clash against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month which saw the German side take the lead (BT Sport) and also gifted Mo Salah a second goal recently when his attempted headed backpass came off his shoulder and allowed the Liverpool man to double their advantage.

Dier was named in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad for the World Cup, having come out of the international wilderness for the UEFA Nations League double header against Italy and Germany which was his first involvement for the Three Lions since March 2021.

“His form for Tottenham isn’t as strong as it was at the beginning of the campaign but his value to the squad is big,” Richards wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“He can play in defence but also has the ability to step into midfield if required. And let’s not forget the courage he showed in Russia when stepping up to take the decisive penalty in the shootout against Colombia.”

Dier needs to iron out the mistakes which have been creeping into his game and cannot afford for them to happen on the World Cup stage when the spotlight of the English media is at its most intense.

Spurs fans will be hoping that he heads back to north London having not put a foot wrong during England’s campaign and is ready to go for the trip to Brentford on Boxing Day.
