The Kings hit the road for the second weekend in a row, looking to snap out of a 3 games losing streak on the lower mainland swing last week.
On Friday the Kings headed into the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm to take on the Silverbacks for the second time this season, and it was the home team who got off to a good start scoring on their first two shots of the game to take a multi goal lead just three minutes in. The Kings would get on the board later in the period on the power play when Casey Aman scored his second of the season after a wrist shot from the point. the ‘Backs would restore the two goal cushion late in the first on a power play of their own when Brandon Santa Juana buried a one timer as the Silverbacks held a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.
In the second the Kings would turn it on offensively scoring 4 straight goals in the first 11 minutes and 30 seconds into the period from Parker Lalonde (5), Karter McNarland (4), Max Potvin (4) , and Anthony Lucarelli (5). 20 seconds after Lucarelli made it 5-3 the Silverbacks would go in on a 2 on 1 and Owen Beckner would fire a wrist shot which hit the crossbar and ricocheted back into the faceoff circle, however the referee immediately signaled a goal on the play. The Kings would argue the call but with no official video review the call would stand and it would completely shift the momentum of the game. With the huge break going the ‘Backs way they would rally and tie the game at 16:12 then score the goal ahead goal two minutes later as Salmon Arm held a 6-5 lead after two periods.
In the third the Kings would try and even the score but the Silverbacks made it tough and held on for the 6-5 win. Final shots were 39-28 for Salmon Arm while the Kings went 2 for 3 on the power play and 1 for 2 on the penalty kill.
After a heartbreaker on Friday the Kings looked to rebound Saturday in Chilliwack for their first meeting with the Chiefs.
Once again the Kings would give up the opening goal for the 10th consecutive game when Dryden Kuramoto would beat Liam Vanderkooi by the blocker off the rush for his first BCHL goal. The Kings would tie shortly after when after getting hauled down on a partial breakaway, Max Potvin would stay on the puck and work his way to the slot where he would fire one top corner for his 5th of the season as we ended the first tied at one.
In the second the Chiefs would score twice to make it 3-1, with the second goal of the game coming 4 on 4 from Nathan Morin, then Tim Delay would score on the powerplay. The Kings would get another back when Max Potvin fed Jack Blanchett in front who then potted his now team leading 6th goal of the season as the Chiefs held a one goal lead heading into the third.
The Kings would control play for a majority of the period and would tie it seven minutes in when Cam Symons fed Nic Porchetta who was all alone in front and buried his 5th of the season. The Kings would outshoot the Chiefs 11-6 in the period as we headed to OT.
In extra time both teams had a few chances, the Kings best opportunity came early on when Parker Lalonde fed Casey Aman for a give and go and with the goalie out of position Lalonde had an open net but just couldn’t make enough contact with the puck to slide it over the goal line. Sasha Teleguine would have a breakaway but was stopped by Liam Vanderkooi who had a great night in the crease making 29 saves.
This game would need a shootout. Chilliwack would shoot first but was unable to score. The Kings first shooter would newcomer Alex Sandhu and he would make a great move to give the Kings the advantage. The Chiefs would by on their last life in the third round of the shootout as Aj Lacroix would need to score to keep it going, and would convert as we needed extra shooters. The first shooter of the fourth round would be Tim Delay who snapped one past Vanderkooi and now the Kings were on their last hope. They would send out Dylan Hewlett who was playing in his 100th game as a King. With the game on his stick he would sadly lose the handle and be unable to get a shot on net and the Chiefs with 4-3.
the Kings would finish with a record of 0-3-0-2 after their two week road trip and now sit 4-11-1-2 through 18 games this season. Up next is the Kings have a very crucial 8 game homestand as they look to turn their season around. It start this weekend with a double header vs the Victoria Grizzlies November 18 at 7pm and November 19th at 5pm. It is also parents weekend at the Hap as the players parents will be at the Hap to cheer on their boys in person.
