The boys water polo teams from Redwood and Terra Linda High learned their fates when the CIF NorCal postseason brackets were released on Sunday.
The Giants (20-8), who made it to the North Coast Section Division I semifinals last week, were picked for D-I again for NorCals. Redwood, seeded sixth, opens with a quarterfinal match on the road at 5 p.m. Tuesday against No. 3 Bellarmine College Prep (19-7) in San Jose.
Terra Linda, fresh off an NCS D-II title victory against Marin Academy on Saturday, was placed in D-III. No. 4 Terra Linda (14-6) hosts No. 5 Woodcreek (15-11) at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Novato High.
Redwood won the NorCal D-II title last season after being selected as the No. 1 seed. The Giants won all three games comfortably and defeated Jesuit 14-17 to claim the title.
Tam’s Gabriella Plonowski, fresh off an undefeated season in MCAL play, is the league’s only representative in the NCS D-I singles tournament, which starts Monday at James Logan High in Union City.
The D-II bracket, to be played at McKinleyville and Arcata high schools, features Branson’s Anna Rende, plus Marin Academy’s Eloise Sent and Amelia Thomas.
Redwood has a pair of entries in the D-I doubles tournament, also at James Logan. Gwenn Ricordel and Lindsey Reed, plus Ella Povio and Annesley Krawitt are in the 16-team field.
Marin has no entries in the D-II doubles tournament.
