If you could design a Rose Parade float, what would it look like?

Ever wonder what a Rose Parade float would look like, if it came from your imagination?

That’s right: If you could design a float, we’d like to know what it would look like.

So, as we plan for the Rose Parade on Jan. 2, we’re inviting you, dear reader, to send us your drawings of your ideal float.

We know that so many of you have memories of Rose floats over the years, whether you’ve attended the parade in person, watched the TV broadcast, or helped decorate the massive shows of floral wonder.

We want you to think about those memories and then consider what your own personal float may look like. Is there a natural element you’d incorporate? How would you weave in this year’s Rose Parade theme, “Turning the Corner,” and what would you do to make that theme come to life on a float this year? Share those thoughts with us and perhaps we’ll publish some in a future edition.

Here are the guidelines:

The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12 (that’s extended from an earlier deadline, from Dec. 5).

• All artwork entries must be uploaded to https://bit.ly/3WemRJs. Drawings should be submitted in JPEG format and be no larger than 5 megabytes in size.
• Choose your tools — they could be on real paper, drawn by pen, pencil, with paint of choice, or colored pencils of your choice (Drawings can also can be black and white). You can also draw using digital tools.
• Floats should have a name and must be connected to the parade theme, “Turning the Corner.”
• Floats must relate to the Rose Parade itself. That is, they must be designed with this specific parade and its route down Colorado Boulevard in mind. While they can be adorned with florals, they don’t have to be.
• Artwork must be original (no tracings).
