Free Practice 2 on Thursday evening saw all 37 cars on track for another 90 minutes of track action, this time under the floodlights in Bahrain with just a brief FCY for recovery of another displaced bollard interrupting full green flag running throughout.
Topping the times early on was the #93 Peugeot 9X8 once again, the time in the hands of Paul di Resta, a 1:49.613 would stay atop the times for the remainder of the session – but only just!
The Peugeot headed another Toyota sandwich around the Alpine, the #8 GR010 second fastest, just 45 thousandths off the Peugeot.
The Alpine finished the session 77 thousandths off the #93 – so all three hypercar marques covered by under a single tenth!
LMP2 was headed initially by Filipe Albuquerque in the #22 United Autosports car but the Portuguese stars’ best was topped by Alessio Rovera in the #83 AF Corse Oreca with a 1:51.787.
That time was just two tenths up on the United effort with the #31 WRT car thread quickest, just ahead of the second, #94, Peugeot, somewhat off the pace in the session.
GTE Pro once again saw the #92 Porsche top the times in the hands of Kevin Estre, 1:57.192, eight tenths up on the quicker of the two Ferraris, the title contending #51.
Team Project 1 topped the morning session, and they did so again in FP2, this time though it was the #46 Porsche in the hands of Matteo Cairoli, a 1:59.717 enough to fend off the opposition, headed by the two Dempsey Proton Porsches, #77 ahead of #88, the trio separated by just three tenths.
