Recognition for Lusk United's fundraising drive

In total over €23k was raised for both Breast Cancer Awareness and St Francis Hospice over a two-week period. The latter event was part of a renaming of their club venue from Station Road to Collie Maher Park, after their friend and dedicated club member Collie Maher passed away earlier this year.

Aiden Jameson, Lusk United Club treasurer, commented on the renaming of their club ground and the fundraising efforts of that event: “Obviously it was a day filled with many emotions for all of us, yet a very proud day for Lusk United, with the support of the community and Collie’s previous clubs St Kevin’s Boys and Whitehall Celtic over €13.5k was raised for St Francis Hospice. Collie will always be remembered for his tireless work, and to rename our pitch to Collie Maher Park was an easy decision; minor recognition for all he did for football and the wider community.”

Nicola Bird, Ladies Kick fit Coordinator with Lusk United, was involved in the Breast Cancer Awareness Club Fundraiser and commented: “With one in nine women and subsequently their families affected by breast cancer in their lifetime it was a great opportunity to raise funds for this worthy cause. Our Kick Fit group (fitness through football for women program) put a lot of work in to ensure the event was a success, however, we never imagined the day would have been as successful as it was.

"We had a wonderful, fun-filled family day which included a cake sale and raffle. There was a great atmosphere and buzz around the club on the day and our Under-8 girls’ team even had the chance to showcase their skills to supporters at half-time. A huge thank you to the community of Lusk, the club, friends, family and Malahide United for participating in the Kick fit match to make it a day we won’t forget.”

Lusk United AFC has approximately 1,000 members and provides football for boys, girls, men and women across 43 teams.
