What a spectacular season for the 06 Steamers Black!
Under the leadership of coach Robert Starr, the team went undefeated in regular season play scoring 36 goals and allowing only 4. They played the first match for the State Cup in dismal weather with constant rain and a cold wind. While dominating most of the game, Mickey Crowe and Jake Gould both scored goals for a strong finish sending them on to the championship.
The championship game was a tough back and forth struggle against a very good team who tried to overpower the Steamers with physical play. Mickey Crowe and Logan Hawley both scored goals, and the first half ended in a 2-2 tie. Mickey scored another goal in the second half. With less than a minute left the score was tied 3-3. With everyone on the sidelines mentally preparing for an overtime, Mercer Ellis came out of nowhere with a rocket of a shot! Mercer scored the winning goal from the 30 in the final seconds to win the championship! Congratulations to all the boys and coach Starr who worked so hard all season and dug deep in their final game for a last second win!
Go Steamers!
