Report: Chelsea set to enter race for wing-back linked with Tottenham
According to CMW.it, Chelsea have their eye on Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.
Over recent days, reports have indicated that right wing-back is one of the areas that Antonio Conte could look to upgrade during the January transfer window (Evening Standard).
CMW.it revealed a few days ago that Dumfries, who joined Inter in the summer of 2020, is an option that the Lilywhites are considering.
The report explained that Inter valued the Netherlands international at £35m but Spurs could look to bring that fee down to £20m by offering Emerson Royal to the Nerazzurri as part of the deal.
The same publication have now asserted that Tottenham could face competition from their London rivals Chelsea for Dumfries’ signature.
It is alleged that the Blues could offer Mateo Kovacic to Inter in a straight swap deal for the right wing-back, with the Croat said to be open to returning to the San Siro.
Spurs Web Opinion
I think most Spurs fans would be in favour of selling Emerson Royal and signing a player like Dumfries, who would be better suited to the wing-back role.
However, Conte seems to value Emerson highly, perhaps due to his attitude and engine. So, I suspect that the Brazilian will remain at Spurs at least until next summer.
