DARK, cooler nights create the perfect excuse to host friends at home.
A games night is fun and easy on cash-strapped budgets.
A games night is fun and easy on cash-strapped budgets[/caption]Here’s how to organise an evening of play.
THE CLASSICS: You only really need to pick one or two games for an evening.
Stick with ones that are familiar, or with rules that are relatively easy to pick up, then consider if the game needs an even number of people and whether that suits the invite list.
WHSmith currently has Articulate on offer at £20, down from £32.99, which always induces lots of laughter and frustration in equal measure.

Or Cards Against Humanity is brilliant, but could be a more risqué option depending on your group — it’s also on offer, down from £29.99 to £23.99.
NO PROPS NEEDED: There are plenty of games that don’t need any equipment if you would rather not splash out.
Two Truths And A Lie is fun, and a great way to get to know friends better. One person makes three statements — two of them must be true and the other a lie.
Other members of the group then try to weed out the false one.
The group can have a discussion among themselves and then guess, or you can make it harder by allowing questions to be asked.
For example, if one of the statements was “I slipped down a flight of stairs in a bar and broke my leg”, guests could ask which bar or which leg was broken to try to see if the story comes undone.
Charades and Guess The Famous Person are other well-known games that don’t require anything other than a bit of a brain power.
EASY HOSTING: Once you have the games sorted, you just need snacks.
Choose foods that are cheap and easy to eat while playing, such as chips, crisps, dips, or pizza.
Then ask your guests to bring a bottle each if you want to include booze in the evening.
