GOP is set for success
in the run-up to the US midterm elections, the Republican Party is more than ever in the grip of former president Donald Trump. His allegations of election fraud are an important part of the Republican strategy to attract the midterms. That could have major implications for the 2024 presidential election and for American democracy in general. “So what are we going to do, folks? I only need 11,000 votes.”It’s January 2, 2021, and Trump has been hanging out with Brad Raffensperger for over an hour. He is the Secretary of State of Georgia and is responsible for the electoral process. Trump asks his party mate to find” enough votes ” (11,780) so that the state goes to the incumbent president. Raffensperger refused. Trump loses the election. The strategy that seemed like a desperate last attempt in 2020 could still become a determining factor during this year’s midterms. In the meantime, the seed of doubt about the elections has germinated into a sophisticated strategy of the Republican Party to attract the elections. And it could just be that it turns out to be successful in the coming years.
